COMPANY: Homeland security solutions company. Company is over 5 years old and is already profitable. Revenues are on target to do around $5M this year. Company has approximately 25 employees. Company just launched new product into a new market and is poised for extremely high growth within the next couple of years. Company has already established several "platinum-level" reference-able clients.
LOCATION: Company is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay area. Position can be located anywhere in California. Client is willing to provide some relocation assistance to the right candidate. Client is especially interested in candidates that currently reside or live within the San Francisco Bay area. Client may consider someone who works remotely. Travel will be required about every other week initially. Need someone who can be in the office a couple days a week when not on the road.
POSITION: Vice President or Director of Sales. (Title depends upon experience.) Need someone to lead the growth and build the new sales team. Will need to hire at least a dozen reps within your first year. Need someone who is comfortable establishing a new technology into a new market. This position is an individual contributor and manager position. Must have someone that could build/grow a team while managing an individual quota too.
COMPENSATION: Compensation will include an annual base salary in line with experience level and market rates for a start-up company. Should be able to at least double base with commissions. No cap on commissions. Plus stock options, 401k, and full benefits. CEO wants someone who is very hungry and confident in their sales abilities.
PERSONAL SUMMARY: This position reports to the CEO. He has been leading the company for the last 5 years. He only gets involved when appropriate. Does not micromanage. He will become involved with clients at key points when appropriate. He is involved in strategy and direction, but allows his team to operate at their own level. He does not micromanage and does not want to micromanage. He is very astute at the business components and always thinking strategically. He is good at balancing the short term goals with long term to ensure success. Corporate culture is open, honest, intellectual, and hard working. Everyone knows what their responsibilities are, but work together as a team to achieve results. Check ego at the door. Employees say that they love the corporate culture. The CEO sets the bar high for everyone to achieve. He is looked up to by the employees. Most of them have been with him the entire five years. Extremely low turnover at this company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: -- Must have held a position as a sales executive, Director or VP with an individual quota within the last 12 months. -- Must have had less than 2 jobs within the last 5 years. -- Must have a record of quota over-achievement. Must be able to show a track record that can be validated with references. -- Must have experience working in a startup environment as well as a successful track record building a new product and/or technology from early adoption through market share leadership at least once in your career. If you have a ton of experience taking orders for an established product, this is NOT the right opportunity for you. If you seek the challenge of building a market leading product and the spoils that come with success, then this is the right opportunity for you. -- Must be comfortable giving an interactive web-feed presentation in front of 20+ people. Must be experienced and comfortable "cold calling" customers in the beginning and obtaining referrals from existing customers. You will be given a directory of 6500 target customers. You will need to put together the sales strategy and execute it. You will need to contact target customers, set up meetings, deliver presentations and proposals, negotiate terms, close deals, etc. The templates for presentations and proposals are already in place, but CEO needs someone to improve and establish the entire sales process and methodology. Must be able to name some companies that you obtained as customers through cold calling. -- Must be able to outline 2 or 3 deals that you did within the last five years. Average deal size for this client is $50k-$150k+ with an average sales cycle of 90-120 days. -- Must have someone who can build a top grade sales team from the ground up. Someone who can ensure that the team has the best possible talent (A players) at each level. Structure comp & incentive plans. Coach and keep top talent and remove non-performers efficiently.
